Alice in Wonderland- the script
based on the book by Lewis Carroll

Secene One- Alice and the Rabbit

Narrator: One hot summer day Alice is sitting under a tree. She doesnt't know that just in a minute or two she will be in a Wonderland and she will meet the White Rabbit, the Duchess, the Cheshire Cat, the March Hare, the Mad Hatter, the King and the Queen who wants to cut off everybody's head.

Alice: I'm bored. I know! I will look for some flowers. No, it's too hot for me
and I feel sleepy.

Narrator: Suddenly Alice sees a white rabbit running past her. The rabbit is taking a watch from his pocket and it's looking at it.

The Rabbit: Oh no, I'm going to be late! The Dutchess!

Alice: That's strange! A rabbit with a watch!

Narrator: Alice runs after the rabbit and suddenly she is in a large rabbit-hole.
She's falling and falling.

Alice:I'm falling !!!
What's going to happen next?
Perhaps I'm going to come to Australia or New Zealand!

Narrator: Suddenly Alice is at the bottom of the hole.

Alice: That didn't hurt.

Narrator: She sees the white rabbit again and runs after him again.

The Rabbit: Oh, my nose and my ears. It's getting late. I'll be late again. The Duchess will be angry with me beacause I AM late!!!

Narrator: Rabbit runs away and Alice is now in a room. There are four doors, but Alice can't open them.

Alice: How am I going to get out? Oh, there's the key on the table. Perhaps it will open the door.

Narrator: Alice takes the key but it's no good. It's too small. Then she sees a very small door and she tries to get through the door but she's too big.

Alice: Oh no, I'm too big. How can I get smaller?This is a very strange place.

Narrator: She sees the bottle on the table. She takes it and reads the label. It says ''DRINK ME'' .

Alice: Perhaps I'll drink it and get smaller. This feels strange ! I'm getting smaller and smaller!

Narrator: After short time Alice is 25 centimetres high and goes through the door.

Scene two : The Duchess and the Cheshire Cat

Narrator:Inside a large room, the Lady is sitting with the baby in her arms.
Near the fire there is a large cat with a big smile. The smile is from ear to ear.

Alice: I think this is the Duchess the Rabbit was talking about. Can little girls speak to Duchess?

Narrator: The Duchess does not say anything to Alice.

Alice: Please, why is your cat smiling?

The Duchess: Because it is a Cheshire Cat.

Alice: So Chesire Cats can smile, I didn't know that.

The Duchess: You don't know much.

Alice: It's not nice to say that!

Narrator: The Duchess begins to throw the baby up and down and suddenly throws the baby to Alice.

The Duchess: Here, you can have the baby now. I have to get ready. I'm going to see the Queen.

Narrator: The Duchess goes out of the room. Alice goes out of the room too.

Alice: I'll take the baby with me or they will kill it! Oh it's nose. It's changing! Oh it's a PIG now!!!

Narrator: The pig runs away and Alice looks around.

Scene Three – Alice and the Cheshire Cat

Narrator: Alice sees the cat up on a tree. The Cat is smiling.

Alice: It looks nice. Please, can you help me? I want to go to somewhere new.

The Cat: Where do you want to go?

Alice : Somewhere different.

The Cat: Somewhere different.
Let me think.
Walk this way and you will come to a house. A man lives there. He makes hats and he's very strange.We call him the Mad Hatter.

Alice: But I don't want to meet a strange man!

The Cat: Walk this way and you will find the March Hare, he's strange too.

Alice: I told you I don't want to meet strange animals.

The Cat: We are all strange here. You are strange TOO!

Alice: How do you know I'm strange?

The Cat: Of course you are. Everybody's strange here! I'm strange. I smile when I'm sad and I cry when I'm happy.That's strange.
Are you going to see the Queen today? She's quite strange too.

Alice: I'd like to meet the Queen, but I haven't got an invitation.

The Cat: You'll see me in the Queen's garden.

Narrator: The Cat disappears.

Alice:That's strange but not VERY strange.
Narrator: After some time Alice sees just the smile but no cat around.

Alice:There are a lot of cats without the smile, but the SMILE without the cat. That's VERY strange.

Narrator: Alice decides to meet the Queen.

Scene Four- Alice and the Queen

Narrator: Alice is in the garden. There are a lot of white and red flowers. Suddenly she hears someone shouting: The Queen! The Queen!
In comes the King and the Queen comes next. The Queen sees Alice.

The Queen: What's your name, child?

Alice: My name is Alice, Madam.


The Queen: Where is everybody? Why are they late?

Alice: I don't know.

The Queen: Cut off her head!Cut off her head!!!

The King: Don't be angry, my dear. She's only a child. Let's start the tea party.

Narrator:The King and the Queen go away and |Alice sees the Duchess.

The Duchess: Come for a walk, you dear thing.

Narrator: She puts her arm through Alice's and they walk through the garden.

The Duchess: Are you THINKING? You have to talk to me, you know.

Alice: All right.

Narrator: In the distance the Queen is shouting: Cut off his head, cut off his head!

Alice: Will they cut off YOUR head?

The Duchess: Oh, no they never cut off anybody's head. The Queen likes saying that, but she never does it.

Narrator: Alice and the Duchess hear the cry: The trial is beginning!

Alice: What IS the trial?

Narrator: The Duchess does not answer but she starts to run. So Alice runs too.

Scene Five – The Trial

Narrator: Alice and the Duchess go into a large room. The King and the Queen are there. They are sitting on big chairs.
Alice and the Duchess sit down too. Alice looks around and she sees the White Rabbit. The Rabbit reads from a very long paper.

The Rabbit: The Queen of the Hearts, she made some tarts,
One lovely sunny day;
The Knave of Hearts, he took those tarts,
He took the tarts away.

The Queen: Cut off his head!

The Rabbit: No, no. We have to call people into the room and ask them questions.

The King: All right then. Call the Mad Hatter!

Narrator: The Mad Hatter comes into the room. He has a teacup in one hand and some bread and butter in the other hand.

The Mad Hatter: Why did you call me? I wanted to finish my tea.

The King: When did you begin your tea?

The Hatter: March the fourteenth, I think.

The March Hare: The sixteenth!

The King: Write that down!

Narrator : The King says to the Mad Hatter to take off his hat.

The King: Take off your hat.

The Hatter : It isn't mine.

The King: So you took it from somebody, you BAD man.

The Hatter: No, no. I SELL hats. I'm the Hatter!

The King: Don't be afraid or I'll cut your head off.

The Hatter: . I'm not a bad man, but the March Hare told me …

The March Hare: I didn't!!!

The King: You have to remember what you said or I'll cut off your head!!!

The Hatter: I'm a good man , Sir!

The King: You can go.

The Queen: Take his head off outside.

Narrator: The Mad Hatter runs out of the room.

The King: Call the next person!

The Rabbit: Alice!

Alice : Here!

Narrator: Alice suddenly got bigger and bigger.

The King: Alice, what do you know about these tarts?

Alice: Nothing!

The King: That's very important.

The Rabbit: You mean, unimportant. Sir.

The King: Unimportant, important, unimportant, important.

Narrator: The King takes the book and reads.

The King: Alice is now more than one kilometre high. She has to go away now!

Alice: I'm not one kilometre high!

The Queen: She's more than two kilometers high! Cut off her head!!!

Alice: Don't be stupid! Who's afraid of you? I'M NOT!!!! You're only cards!!!

The Queen: Cut off her head!!!

Narrator: Alice starts to feel afraid. Suddenly she feels strange. She looks around and she sees a big old tree. She begins to understand.

Alice: That was just a dream!!!!
